J Louis

José Luis Soler started spinning records in a club in Sant Boi in Vall de Llobregat (Barcelona) in 1988. Since then his career has only been him focusing on consolidating himself in his work, reaching qualification as "innovative DJ and a master example for others",- so heard from work mates backstage at the Matinée home grounds. Coming from a family that include three DJs, one must say that it's been served to him on a silver plate.

In the beginning of the 90's he gets to know Manolo Soria (owner and director of Matinée) with whom he started playing on dancefloors like Illusion in 1996.

In 1998 opens the after party Matinée, and J Louis is the resident DJ. From then on start the Salvation and La Madame sessions, inaugurating what then becomes the Matinée Group.

At present J. Louis is resident at Café Olé, Souvenir and La Madame. From the beginning of 1999 he becomes resident during the sessions organized at El Divino and at Space in Ibiza. From that moment Matinée starts appearing on the Balearic Island and J. Louis is one of the main characters at the Matinée parties from 2001 (the Matinée Mornings organized on Saturday mornings at Space Ibiza).

In Spain he has played at Valencia's The Face, at Madrid's Cool, Pasapoga and Space of Sound, in Bilbao, Vitoria, Zaragoza, Andorra and at Mallorca's Club BCM. Furthermore he has played in Brussels at Strong, in London at Crash and Action, in Paris at Scream and Amnesia, in Toulouse at Villa Garden, in Miami at the autumn conference at Bill Board Life (2002), in Berlin, Riccone, Bergamo and Milan, where he participated in the fashion week 2002/3 at the club Marangoni. He has also participated in the Matinée Tour, travelling monthly to various European clubs.

J. Louis has mixed all Matinée compilations and has taken part in other productions together with DJ Chus Soler (Katering Recording). Further to this has he added his music to compilations from Gay Pride in Madrid 2003 (Orgullo Gay) and Primera Linea. He has worked with partners like Blanco and Negro and with DJs like David Morales, José Nuñez, Franco Muragui and the sublime ones: Morillo and Calderone.

J. Louis defines his work as a search for constant innovation; because people search for any sort of recognized House Music, which is not to his liking at all. "I like having fun with what I do and what I produce", says the DJ, and continues "cause this leads to my sessions becoming different and unique.

In respect of being categorized as comercial or not, J. Louis has his own clear opinion: "Everything ends up being comercial, especially through  the radio stations, but we musn't forget, that long before ending up in the air, they have already been played in the clubs": According to J. Louis "some DJs take advantage of other collegues' work, which definately isn't the case within the Matinée Group".
